Bang Bang Shrimp” – what a name! And what a dish! If you’ve ever been to Bonefish Grill and haven’t ordered their BANG BANG SHRIMP, you are making an awful mistake. Unless, you know, you’re allergic to shrimp, then I’ll let this one slide.

Even if you claim to not like shrimp because of its texture or what not (like me), this recipe will make you fall in love. It’s the only shrimp I’ll eat.

This spicy little dish is perfect as an appetizer, to top some pasta or rice, and would be amazing for spicing up a salad. Literally. Oh, and do not even get me started on bang bang shrimp tacos.

As you know, I am sharp as a knife and quick to find shortcuts in my recipes. If there’s a quicker and easier way for me to get a beautiful, delicious meal on the table while preserving its quality, I’ll do it with no hesitation.

Which is why I bought shrimp that was frozen, breaded, and tails removed. I don’t mind paying a little extra for someone to do that dirty work for me. I have no shame when it comes to that.

Serving tray for bang bang

Finding shortcuts is not just reserved for my recipes. Anything that makes my every-day life simpler is welcomed. Take this bamboo serving tray I got from Household Wonders, for example. First I thought it too big but quickly found all sorts of uses for it. 🙂

It works great for transferring anything, from breakfast to serve in bed to shrimp dinner for two. Not to mention it’s big enough to house lots of props when I take my food photos. It cuts down my trips from and to the kitchen at least in half. That’s a great shortcut in my book.

It’s sturdy and I love that it has handles, but it also looks really nice, so you can use it as a decorative display. If you get it now, you’ll get 35% OFF! Just go to Household Wonders and enter the promo code JAS at the checkout. It’s a bargain, really!

Baked bang bang shrimp

While some bang bang shrimp recipes involve sautéing your shrimp, grilling them or frying, I baked them in the oven.

On the occasion, I try and use a slightly healthier cooking method. I know you can probably rebuttal and say something like, “but what about the cake for breakfast?” or “the x amount of desserts on your blog?”

You’re right; I have a naughty sweet tooth. But, I decided to bake these shrimp instead of frying them. That way they’re not drenched in oil and have that beautiful, textured outside that is perfect for being hugged by the Thai bang bang sauce.

While I don’t like the texture of shrimp all that much, this dish is just too delicious to be distracted by something so minuscule. My husband loves shrimp and I often make it for him. Aren’t I a nice wife? 😉

Oh, and I must say, he said he likes these bang-bang better than the ones from Bonefish Grill. HA. Jas: 1. Bonefish: 0.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Bake the shrimp according to the package directions.
  2. Meanwhile, mix the mayo, chili sauce, sugar, and vinegar in a large bowl.  Add hot baked shrimp and toss to coat.

  3. […] cod battered, and my shrimp…you can have my shrimp. Not a fan, although, I don’t mind the bang-bang shrimp. Salmon, though, I can have daily. I have no preference how it’s prepared. That is until now. […]

Jas, before the wife and I moved to Sweden we often had dinner at the bar of our local Bonefish. We always just had three appetizers for our meal and Bang Bang shrimp was always one of them. I’m so glad to get the copycat for the sauce. Slick idea to use prebreaded and to bake. I’ll have to see if we can get those here.

I hope they’re available prebreaded there, Ron. Enjoy, as even something simple like bang-bang shrimp can be nostalgic and comforting 🙂

BAHAHAHA!!! My sister used to tell me that she didn’t eat shrimp because it was like eating “a dead person’s fingers.” I pointed out that it simply wasn’t COOKED properly. She’s now a convert. I absolutely LOVE bang bang shrimp (although I haven’t yet tried the version at Bonefish Grill—and there’s one in town, HELLO?!), so any recipe that health-ifies it somewhat is a winner in my book! #cookblogshare
