Let’s face it: we all know that essential oils are very useful in our daily lives. They keep us healthy and well by purifying the air, heightening our immune system, quickening the healing of cuts or bruises, and balancing out our bodies. I don’t know about you, but these little glass bottles tend to be more useful than most of my pharmaceutical medicines in my cabinet. Every time I venture to visit my grandmother back in China, I bring home more to use and diffuse. Though health is a very important aspect of our daily lives, there is more to these oils than you might think. Using essential oils can help spark your creativity whether you’re a writer, artist, or musician. Even if you’re not all that artistic, these oils can certainly help you focus on your homework, home-tasks, and more!

There are a few oils that are simply must-haves when it comes to increasing your focus and sparking your creativity:
I will explain just what these oils can do for you and how to effectively use each one. If you are a frequent oil user, there is a good chance at least one of these you are familiar with.
First, I am going to begin with one of the most popular oils. Lavender is most commonly known to be a scent that brings relaxation. The essential oil of this certainly brings this fact to complete and testable truth. Creativity tends to have a difficult time coming into light when I am stressed, and I’m quite certain that I wouldn’t be wrong to assume the same for most of you. Nothing will help your relax more than lavender will on its own. The best way to use lavender is by applying some onto the inner parts of your wrist or diffusing. Lavender is one of the oils that you can leave on safely for a while. Three times a day you can diffuse lavender into the air for up to an hour.
Second, peppermint is most certainly bound to get your creative juices going! This essential oil greatly improves your focus. Peppermint helps to release mental stress and uplift your spirit. Wake up your senses by diffusing peppermint for about ten minutes three times a day. Any creativity block can be cured by a few drops in your diffuser and feel your energy boost right away.
Or, if you’ve been thinking a little too hard you can rub some oil onto your forehead to alleviate any headache. It works for me every time.
Now that you’re relaxed and focused, perhaps you need a little help clearing your thoughts. Prepare yourself for the floodgates of creativity because the third oil is rosemary. This oil, diffused in the same manner as peppermint, will help bring clarity to your mind and senses. Improving your concentration, rosemary will help you sort your thoughts to pull your creativity into its full potential.
Last, but not least, is frankincense. Personally, I enjoy yoga and Tai Chi, and rarely can I go on without diffusing this oil into the air around me. Some say that frankincense increases your spiritual awareness, and this may be true but it also helps with your focus and creativity alongside. Frankincense helps to arrange your thoughts and enhance your experiences. What is great about this oil, is that it is used in many mixtures of oils that promote the health of your mind and your awareness. This oil can be diffused the same as lavender. One hour at a time, three times a day.
Essential Oil Blends For Creativity
Now maybe you have more of a collection of oils than one who had only acquired a few. As I previously mentioned, there are mixtures you can create to help improve your awareness, focus, concentration and ultimately your creativity. Below I have placed a small list of some of the blends I prefer to use when it comes to sparking my creative flow. All of them can be placed in a diffuser for a short while.
- 8 drops of grapefruit
- 5 drops of basil
- 5 drops of bergamot
- 2 drops of lavender
Alert and Aware Blend
- 15 drops of eucalyptus
- 5 drops of peppermint
- 5 drops of basil
- 20 drops of lemon
- 6 drops of basil
- 2 drops of rosemary
