Just the other day a friend of mine said this: “Many people are afraid to be happy. For to be happy we need to make changes in our lives and ourselves. We always think it is better not to drink from a jug of happiness because we will suffer once the jug gets empty. And then, out of fear that we will be crying we just stop laughing.”
Been there, done that. To be happy you have to love yourself. Are you happy with who you are, tallying all your qualities and flaws?
Do you remember that awkward age when all you wanted was to be accepted by your peers and to fit in? Yeah, most of us had to work hard on that. We didn’t always understand what we were lacking but we did everything to please the crew. Some of us became life-long people-pleasers, others became selfish and despicable. Neither is good. Find balance. Set boundaries. Don’t settle.
I’m pushing 50 and just recently learned how to let go of my insecurities, let go of what other people think and started accepting my imperfections. I heart me. Now, don’t think that I go about my day singing the tunes from “The sound of Music” and twirling. Not even close. More often than not my mouth should be washed out with soap. I, the people-pleaser, no longer have the energy for meaningless friendships, forced interactions and unnecessary conversations. That doesn’t make me an unpleasant or cruel person. Quite the opposite as I observed. And if you disagree, that’s OK too. It’s not your job to like me…it’s MINE.
If you lack your own love you attract people that mirror your negative beliefs and feelings about yourself. Misery loves company. By the Law of Attraction, it couldn’t be any other way.
Explore what makes you happy. Discover what nourishes your soul and brings joy and make room for it in your life. Do you have a hobby? Do you laugh often? Do you like intellectual challenges? Do you push yourself and take initiative? Keep yourself busy!
Be the most important person to yourself.
Accept yourself, celebrate the beautiful you and keep smiling!
Looking forward to connecting to you soon.
